The Plano City Council and Plano ISD Board of Trustees are each meeting this week. Here's what's on the agenda.
Public hearing on bonds
The Plano City Council tonight will hold its final scheduled public hearing on a proposed $226 million bond package before sending the proposal to voters later this year.
At the last meeting, city staff announced more than $31 million had been trimmed from the 2017 bond proposal since its December discussions. If any other changes are announced,
Community Impact Newspaper will report it on
our Plano homepage and
Twitter account, so keep an eye out later tonight.
The City Council will also consider shortening the time limit for parking in streets and lots throughout downtown Plano. The city's engineering department has recommended shortening the time limit from four hours to three hours in most downtown parking areas.
Council members will also consider a series of proposed zoning changes that have
cleared the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission.
School officials to lay out lobbying plan
Plano ISD staff are expected to focus heavily on the state's recapture policy on Tuesday when they present their state legislative priorities to the board of trustees.
In a list of priorities attached to the school board agenda, district staff said they intend to lobby for a requirement that public property tax statements include the amount of property tax revenue that is being distributed from wealthier districts, like Plano ISD, to poorer ones through the state's recapture program.
The district's lobbying priorities also include opposing state-funded vouchers for private schools, making it easier for districts to increase the tax rate for maintenance and operations and calling for changes to the state's "A-F" accountability ratings.
