A roughly 2-mile stretch of Plano’s McDermott Road will see construction in the coming months.

Plano City Council members unanimously approved a $765,558 contract to V.A. Construction, Inc. for various repairs to McDermott Road between Preston Road and Coit Road during an April 14 meeting.

The gist

This project itself will include repairing:
  • Approximately 2,000 square yards of arterial concrete
  • 11,000 square feet of sidewalk
  • 48 barrier free ramps
Construction is expected to finish in late September 2026, according to an April 10 update on the city’s community investment program website.

While Plano’s Public Works department is usually tasked with isolated road repairs, the city typically turns to outside contractors for larger areas of repair like McDermott Road, according to meeting documents.

The city would not be able to repair the road if council had chosen to deny the April 14 contract request, according to a statement included in the meeting documents.

Funding for the project comes from the city’s 2024-25 Street Improvements community investment program budget.
