The city of Plano is spending $6.8 million for road construction on Alma Drive and Independence Parkway.

Plano City Council approved a contract with Jagoe-Public Company for the arterial overlay projects during its Feb. 24 meeting.

The specifics

The arterial overlay projects are set for Alma Drive between Parker Road and Hedgcoxe Road and Independence Parkway between Spring Creek Parkway and SH 121.

The work includes 1,500 square yards of concrete repairs followed by the installation of a thin asphalt overlay.

On average, sections of road that undergo the arterial overlay process will not need additional maintenance for 15-20 years, while roads with only concrete repairs need maintenance every five years, on average, Plano Senior Engineer Samson Bekele said.
