What you need to know
Plano City Council approved the $383,987 project which will replace all of the library’s shelves on Jan. 27.
The project will be paid for through 2021 bond funding, City Manager Mark Israelson said.
Plano Libraries Director Libby Holtmann said that the current shelving is more than 40 years old. She added that the new shelving would be the same as in the city’s newer libraries, allowing the libraries to “share” shelving when it is damaged.
What else
A more extensive renovation of Schimelpfenig is set to be included in the city’s 2025 bond package, which Plano voters will have on their May ballot.
Holtmann said that, based on the work planned for Schimmelpfenig in the 2025 bond package, there is no efficiency to be gained in waiting to change the library's shelving for the upcoming project.
