Plano ISD held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Career and Technological Education Center at the corner of Alma Drive and West Park Boulevard on Nov. 19.

“We are delivering on a promise to prepare students for the future,” Plano ISD Superintendent Theresa Williams said. “This new CTE Center symbolizes progress, collaboration and our shared vision for the future.”

The 150,000 square-foot facility is expected to cost around $72.2 million, and will be funded by the district’s 2022 bond. The center will be located next to Academy High School.

The center will feature 17 programs and expanding opportunities for students, according to a news release from PISD, including the following:Brittnea Ussery, Plano ISD Education Foundation senior executive director, also announced a $1 million donation from NexPoint—the company behind the Texas Research Quarter, a 200-acre life sciences development set for Legacy business park.


Half of the donation will support CTE programming in advanced manufacturing and the other half will support PISD Education Foundation programming, according to the release.

“The new CTE Center is proof of our community’s belief in the importance of career and technical education,” said Nancy Humphrey, PISD board of trustees president. “Our community gave a big thumbs up to invest in this project. That is a huge vote of confidence in our vision to give our students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their future careers.”

What’s next


Construction on the CTE center is expected to finish before the start of the 2026-27 school year.
