Husband and wife, Lane and Brooke Bauer opened a second Local Creamery in Murphy May 6.

The duo has been serving ice cream from its first location on Preston Road in Plano since it opened in July 2022.

Brooke said they chose to open in Murphy because she grew up in Los Rios, a neighborhood in East Plano and is a Plano East Senior High alumnus so opening in this area was important to her.

Lane makes all the ice cream at the Plano location. However, when it comes to creating new flavors it’s a team effort for Brooke and Lane.

“We strategize and come up with new flavors every three months,” Brooke said. “We play in the kitchen with flavors and different textures.”

The three most popular flavors are the brookie, coffee crunch and Texas bluebonnet.

Brookie consists of homemade vanilla ice cream with homemade brownies and chocolate chip cookies in it. Coffee Crunch features Heath Bars.

“Texas bluebonnet is our mystery flavor,” Brooke said. “We don’t tell anyone what's in it.”

Brooke said they have a few things that sets them apart from other ice cream shops.

“We always carry six dairy-free options that are not iced based,” she said. “They are not like sorbets. They look, taste and feel like real ice cream. That's a big thing for us.”

They offer a variety of options that meet different dietary needs.

“We don't use artificial flavors,” she said. “We use plant based products like turmeric, spirulina, beet juice, carrot to get our colors. We don’t use any artificial ingredients. I can't speak for sprinkles and marshmallows but as far as ice cream they are all natural.”

They also have gluten free, vegan waffle cones that are made in the store.

“We have a separate iron to make those,” Brooke said. “We try to be really careful about allergens and people with sensitivities towards different things like eggs and nuts. We always have all our ingredients out where people can get to know what they are.”

In addition to scoops of ice cream, customers can order a cookie bowl or brownie bowl sundae.

“We make everything fresh here at the store and keep them warm so you get a warm bowl of chocolate chip cookie or brownie and we add the ice cream with hot fudge or caramel, whipped cream and a topping on that,” Brooke said.

Ice cream and cookie dough are sold in pints. They also offer ice cream cakes that are ordered online.
