Zooming in
The new site plan would expand the parking lot northward, and add yard games like corn hole and horseshoe west of the existing parking lot. The new plan would also add two pickleball courts near the parking lot expansion, along with additional concrete trails, connecting to Chisolm Trail. The new plan also includes a playground west of the pickleball courts. Plano officials expect the renovation to cost $5.3 million.
Some background
At an April 2023 town hall, several Plano residents expressed interest in the city expanding access to pickleball. At the meeting, Plano’s Assistant Recreation Director Dr. Susie Hergenrader said the city was in the planning phase to add more recreational amenities to Harrington Park, including possible pickleball courts. At the meeting, Dr. Hergenrader added that Plano wanted to add more amenities during the rec center's 2019 renovation, but the area's floodplain prevented the city from expanding the building.
Looking ahead
Plano officials plan to break ground in early 2026. Two additional pickleball courts could be added if the city determines there is demand for them, according to the city.
