Marty Wade, Plano deputy fire chief, has been named the interim fire chief effective Jan. 19.
Wade will take over for Fire Chief Brian Crawford, who has accepted a position as Shreveport, Louisiana's chief administrative officer. Crawford begins his new position Jan. 27.
Plano will conduct a national search for the next fire chief, according to a press release.
Wade began his fire service career when he joined Plano Fire-rescue in 1989. He has been promoted in the department to fire apparatus operator in 1995, lieutenant in 1999, captain in 2001, battalion chief in 2007 and deputy chief over community health systems in 2013.
Wade earned his EMT-Paramedic patch, a designation he still holds, in 1991 from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical. He comes from a family of firefighters with his father Melvin Wade being the retired captain of the Garland Fire Department.
