The Growth of the Plano Chamber of Commerce was on display at the annual meeting Jan. 20.
Jamee Jolly, chamber president and CEO, said the meeting had its largest showing ever with 530 people in attendance.
The chamber now claims more than 1,000 businesses as members, representing a 9 percent growth from the year before.
"We have seen more corporations and larger employers getting involved in the activities of the chamber, and quite frankly the community, than ever before" 2014 chamber President Olin Jaye said.
"I think the thing I am most proud of is our ability to adapt to what's going on, to great challenges and great opportunities. One of those things was, we are very blessed to have Toyota moving to Plano." Jaye said.
Incoming board chairman Al Valente laid out the chamber's three strategic goals: customer focus, communication and collaboration, and efficiency.
"In the past 100 years, Plano has evolved from a small farming town, to a bedroom community, to a booming explosive suburb," Valente said. "In more recent years, we have become a diverse, bright and economically thriving community. We have become the type of city that can house a fortune 500 companies headquarters, but still support small family owned restaurants."
Jim Lentz, CEO of Toyota North America, shared Toyota's vision of becoming "One Toyota" by brining all affiliates together under one roof.
"This is an historic and a very exciting time for us at Toyota. Strong sales momentum and a recovering economy have positioned the auto industry as well as Toyota for six years of consecutive growth. At the same time, we strengthen our commitment to Plano as our company, our team members and our associates take root and grow in our new home," Lentz said.
Toyota started the day with a ceremonial groundbreaking of its new North American Headquarters in Plano.
