Plano’s population grew 6.69% from 2013-18, according to 2018 American Community Survey five-year estimates. The estimates show Plano’s 2018 population as 284,579.

The U.S. Census Bureau data released this information Dec. 19, along with other data.

Women make up 50.8% of Plano’s population compared with 49.2% for men. This is similar to Texas as a whole, where women make up 50.3% of the state’s population.

Plano’s median age increased to 38.6 in 2018, according to the data. This compares to a median age of 37.5 in 2013. The state’s median age is 34.4.

The population of those 65 years and older has also increased in Plano by 38.4% from 2013-18, the estimates show.


Children under the age of 18 accounted for 64,798 people out of Plano’s total population in 2018, according to the data.

The estimates show that Plano became more diverse from 2013-2018. The white population dropped by about 4.2%, according to the data. Those who identify as black or African American increased by roughly 1.3%, while those who categorized themselves as Asian increased by about 2.2%. The population of those who identify as American Indian and Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander did not increase, according to the estimates.

The number of individuals who identify as Hispanic or Latino increased by roughly .6%.
