On May 18, crews began construction on the first phase of downtown street improvements, which span from Church Street to Kentucky Street. This phase is expected to be substantially completed in September prior to the annual Oktoberfest event in downtown McKinney.

Crews are expected to begin work along the northern half of the roadway between Church and Kentucky during the month of July. A minimum of one lane of traffic will remain open along Louisiana Street as construction continues, with access to businesses maintained through the duration of construction.
