Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-McKinney received its Level III trauma designation Aug. 25 making it one of 60 Level III facilities in Texas and the fifth trauma facility in Collin County.

As a Level III facility, the medical center provides stabilization, assessment of injury, resuscitation and provides treatment or arranges to transfer the patient to a higher-level designated trauma facility.

The Level III facility also provides educational opportunities for professionals and the public and implements injury prevention programs, according to a press release from the medical center.

"Whether a resident needs a treatment in a life-threatening situation or a woman arrives to give birth, our team is prepared with the right skill set," Kyle Armstrong, president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-McKinney, said in the release.

Since the hospital opened in 2012, it has seen more than 154,493 emergencies, according to the release.
