First McKinney Baptist Church, located at 1615 W. Louisiana St., is seeking to increase the maximum occupancy limit for its warming station.

What’s happening?

McKinney City Council members are scheduled to consider the request at an upcoming Dec. 16 meeting held at McKinney City Hall. First McKinney Baptist Church is also seeking to modify the temperature threshold for operation of the warming station, according to a city document.

The church already has a temporary use permit for operation of a warming station that allows up to 40 guests at one time when temperatures are forecast to drop below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Officials are seeking an amendment to allow operation when the ambient temperature is at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit and to increase the maximum occupancy to 100 guests.

First McKinney Baptist Church is currently the only permitted warming station in the city, according to the city document. The center opens from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday through Thursday once temperature thresholds have been met.

Also on the agenda

Council members will also consider amending the city budget to appropriate funding for the McKinney National Airport commercial terminal project. The action, if approved, would appropriate $7.4 million received from the McKinney Economic Development Corp. toward the project.
