What’s happening?
City Council is scheduled to meet Dec. 2 for a work session and regular meeting. The regular meeting agenda includes consideration of a zoning case for construction of a new hospital, dubbed Texas Health McKinney in a letter of intent submitted to the city.
McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the zoning request in November. If approved by council, the subject property would be zoned for commercial uses with a maximum building height of 210 feet, according to city documents.
A conceptual stacking plan included in the zoning request shows a first phase with a five-story hospital featuring an emergency department, surgery space, women’s services floor and 60 inpatient beds. Further phases of construction could expand the hospital to 12 floors with 300 inpatient beds, as well as two adjacent medical office buildings, according to city documents.
Planning documents also show the hospital could use exterior materials, including precast concrete panels that give the appearance of stone as well as engineered natural glue laminated wood elements, both of which were used at the Texas Health Frisco hospital.
Also on the agenda
City staff are returning to council to further discuss a potential trap-neuter-release program for feral cats. The afternoon work session agenda includes a presentation on different options for the potential program.
Council members last discussed TNR in October when Animal Services Manager Hannah Golden made a presentation during another work session. Trap-neuter-release refers to trapping, spaying or neutering; vaccinating; and ear tipping feral cats for identification before releasing them.
The target population is feral cats, which are different from stray cats, Golden said during the Oct. 6 work session. The goal of TNR is to reduce feral cat population over time through spaying and neutering, according to the presentation.
One more thing
Council members are scheduled to discuss a new destination sports park and entertainment district in McKinney. Guiding principles for the project were tabled Nov. 18 after some council members expressed a desire for further conversation about what to do with 270 acres of city-owned land along CR 164.
The work session agenda includes an item to further discuss the guiding principles. A resolution to adopt the guiding principles is also included on the regular meeting’s consent agenda.
