The details
The operations facility was purchased following an authorization by McKinney City Council in 2013.
Since taking ownership of the air center, the revenues have increased by about $1 million annually, totaling a $10 million increase in 2023 compared to 2013, the release states. The general aviation airport has also seen growth in other metrics, including a record-breaking 5% increase in takeoffs and landings.
"This significant growth at the airport is great news for the residents of McKinney,” McKinney National Airport Director Ken Carley said in the release. “The ad valorem tax revenue generated by the airport and [fixed-base operator] pays for local road improvements, emergency services, education and more.”
Earlier this year, McKinney Air Center was ranked among the top 10% of service providers in the 2020 Aviation International News FBO survey of the Americas, according to a news release from the city of McKinney.
The city also debuted a new fixed-base operator facility earlier this year following roughly five years of construction.
Also of note
Projects to construct new facilities at McKinney National Airport are planned and underway.
Cirrus Aircraft, a personal aviation company, broke ground earlier this year on a site at the airport. The company plans to build a 45,000-square-foot facility that will include both administrative offices as well as two hangars, according to the release.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is also expected to relocate its operations to the airport following the construction of a new hangar facility. The project is funded by a $5 million grant from the state and is currently in a preliminary design phase, the release states.
A 15,000-square-foot airport maintenance building, totaling $5.5 million, as well as a 500 extension on the south end of the runway were both completed in September. A second phase of the runway extension project will begin in 2024 and is expected to extend the north end of the runway, the release states.
