McKinney residents and visitors gathered at McKinney National Airport on Oct. 26 to see a variety of aircraft at the Display Day event.

The gist

The inaugural event at McKinney National Airport featured a range of aircraft on display, including emergency medical services helicopters, drones, corporate jets and Civil Air Patrol planes. The McKinney Fire Department displayed vehicles at the event, including a new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle. In addition to the displays, local flight school officials, tenants at the airport and airport representatives were on-site.

The event, initially scheduled for Oct. 25, was rescheduled to Oct. 26 due to forecasted rain.

What they’re saying

McKinney National Airport Director Ken Carley said officials estimated the event attendance reached multiple thousands of attendees, and that the airport will host a Display Day event again in the future.

“Many residents have not had a reason to visit McKinney National Airport yet,” Carley said in a city news release. “Display Day is a chance to see the aircraft based here and learn how the airport operates today.”

In case you missed it

An expansion project to accommodate future commercial passenger service is underway at McKinney National Airport. A groundbreaking was held for a 46,000-square-foot passenger service terminal in July. The terminal is expected to open in November 2026 with four gates and capacity to expand to six gates.

The $79 million project includes the terminal and associated infrastructure to support commercial passenger service. The terminal will include on-site car rental facilities, concessions and a 980-space public parking lot. Details on airlines, destinations and rates are expected to be announced about six months prior to the terminal opening.
