McKinney ISD could host another six years of football championships at its districtwide stadium.

MISD has hosted the NCAA Division II Football Championships for the last two years. In March, the district was selected to host future games through 2021.

After the organization's second positive experience in McKinney this past December, NCAA asked the district to put in a bid to host an additional four years on top of the two it already has lined up, MISD Director of Athletics Shawn Pratt said during a Feb. 12 meeting.

The 2018 and 2019 championships were held at the MISD Stadium, located at 4201 Hardin Blvd. The association chose to return to McKinney a second time due to a successful experience the year before. Pratt said this is the case again.

Over 3,600 people attended the 2019 game Dec. 21, when teams from the University of West Florida and Minnesota State University went head to head, Pratt said. Out of those in attendance,
38% were from out of state.

“Overall it was a big success," he said.

McKinney ISD
already submitted the bid, and NCAA is expected to make a final bid approval sometime in mid-October.
