The McKinney High School Performing Arts Center opened Jan. 31 at 1400 Wilson Creek Parkway.

The 61,000-square-foot, 1,000-seat center will be used daily by the theater, band, orchestra and choir departments.

At the opening, Superintendent Rick McDaniels announced the new performance hall as the Sperry Performance Hall, named after 35-year McKinney ISD board member Lynn Sperry.

"[She] and her husband Neil have supported the fine arts program for nearly four decades," McDaniel said. "The McKinney High School Performing Arts Center is a shining example of [their] commitment to the arts."

Lynn said she never thought she would see the program so successful in her lifetime but is proud it has exceeded her expectations.

First performances are being held Jan. 31-Feb. 2. Students will perform “The Phantom of the Opera” with performances at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets can be found online here.
