McKinney resident Deanna Kuykendall will serve in the Place 8 seat on the Collin College Board of Trustees until the May 2027 election, according to an Aug. 26 news release from the college.
Kuykendall was appointed to the seat and sworn in at an Aug. 25 board meeting following an application process that was conducted to fill the vacant seat.
“We were fortunate to have an outstanding group of community members interested in serving Collin College,” board chair Jay Saad said in the release. “Deanna’s experience, leadership, and commitment to Collin County will be valuable assets to the Board. We are pleased to welcome her and look forward to working together to continue creating opportunities for our students.”
The details
Kuykendall is an Eastern New Mexico University graduate and currently serves as the director of government affairs for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. She is also a current or former member of various boards and commissions for local organizations, the release states, including:

The context
The Place 8 seat became vacant following the retirement of J. Robert “Bob” Collins, a founding member of the Collin College Board of Trustees who served for 41 years, a May news release from the college states.
Collins, a former corporate leader for a defense electronics company, retired following the college’s May commencement ceremony, where he stood on stage and shook the hand of his grandson who graduated from Collin College during the event.
“We always believed Collin County deserved a college that could grow with the community and provide opportunities for generations of students,” Collins said in the release. “It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve this institution alongside such dedicated faculty, staff, administrators, and fellow trustees. Watching my grandson graduate from Collin College during my final commencement ceremony made this moment especially meaningful for my family and for me.”
