A new McDonald’s location is expected to be constructed in west McKinney, according to city documents.

McKinney Planning and Zoning commission members unanimously approved a request for a site plan exception to allow for the drive-thru restaurant to be developed at a June 9 meeting. Commission member Bry Taylor was absent for the vote.

The gist

The exception allowed for the landscape buffer on the site to be reduced from 20 feet to 17.9 feet due to expansion of the right-of-way by the Texas Department of Transportation, according to city documents.

The 1.35-acre site is located at the northwest corner of University Drive and Prestwick Hollow Drive. The location will total nearly 4,500-square-feet and will include two drive-thru and ordering lanes, according to city documents.

Zooming out

McDonald’s serves burgers, chicken nuggets, a breakfast menu and more. The company has more than 38,000 restaurants worldwide, according to its website.

Another McDonald’s location is under development in west McKinney at the northwest corner of Virginia Parkway and Custer Road, according to a March 19 McKinney City Council meeting. There are six existing McDonald’s locations in the city, the business’s website states.
