McKinney ISD will begin civil work for fine arts expansions at McKinney Boyd High School, Evans Middle School and Cockrill Middle School. Work is expected to begin when the 2017-18 school year ends and be complete by the first day of the 2018-19 school year Aug. 20, said Greg Suttle, executive director of facilities, services and construction. During Tuesday’s MISD board meeting, the board approved the civil package of these projects totaling approximately $1.64 million. Civil work includes electrical work, waterproofing and sealants, utility location work, building necessary retaining walls, traffic signage and more, according to district documents. The 2016 bond election included approximately $14.24 million to fund the expansion of fine arts at these three campuses. Approximately $12.6 million will be left in the budget to fund remaining work on these projects, according to district documents. The district is also building at 1,000-seat performing arts center at McKinney High School, 1400 Wilson Creek Parkway, McKinney. More information about this project can be found here. During the meeting board members also discussed the fiscal year 2018-19 budget, which includes additional funding for teacher compensation, and the hiring of 15 new teachers and two security resource officers. More about the proposed budget, which will be approved in June, can be found in previous coverage here.
