1. Colmenero Mexican Imports brings pottery, other goods to McKinney

Since 1998, Colmenero Mexican Imports has brought Mexican goods—and culture—to McKinney, owner Rebecca Colmenero said. Colmenero co-owns the business with her husband, who is from Delores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, Mexico, a region known for Talavera, a Spanish and Mexican pottery tradition characterized by its visual textures and emphasis on color.

2. Two Skillets Catering offers catering, specialized menu for North Texas events

Two Skillets Catering owner Rob Richards is on a mission to create a menu for any event. Richards opened the business in 2016 and now offers catering throughout North Texas. Richards has worked in restaurants since he was 16 years old, adding that he attended New England Culinary Institute in Vermont before traveling through the East Coast. Richards, who is originally from Richardson, returned to North Texas to be with his wife, who was finishing her master's degree.


3. McKinney Hat Company offers customization for McKinney hat buyers

A love of cowboy hats led Mike Buchanan to open McKinney Hat Company with his nephew, Brad Jolly, in March 2021. Like Buchanan, Jolly also had a love of cowboy hats and moved from Arkansas to help his uncle open the store. The store offers several different ways for patrons to customize their hats, which Buchanan said sets McKinney Hat Company apart.

4. Fetch Me Later aims to provide specialty pet care in McKinney

For 25 years, Denise McGough worked in finance and information technology; however, in 2023 she started a new career when she purchased a pet resort business, transforming it into Fetch Me Later Pet Resort. Dogs that visit Fetch Me Later Pet Resort are treated in the way that makes them feel most comfortable, McGough said.


5. Pavitra Organic Day Spa offers customizable experiences in Downtown McKinney

A passion for skincare and a desire to build a successful business led Kristian Sextro to open Pavitra Organic Day Spa in McKinney. Sextro opened the spa in 2010 and while the business has been in its current location since 2018, Pavitra Organic Day Spa has always been located in Downtown McKinney, she said.

6. The Clubhouse Indoor Golf offers a golf course away from Texas weather

The Clubhouse Indoor Golf offers a customizable golfing experience in McKinney, co-owner Logan Lawrence said. The business is family-owned, Lawrence said, and offers six golf simulation bays with a selection of virtual golf courses. The simulators also offer swing analysis and feedback to golfers.


7. Lifted Trucks builds, sells customs trucks in McKinney

Lifted Trucks' expansion into McKinney aimed to meet Texas' truck community needs.

"Texas is a big market," said Mike Halland, marketing manager of Lifted Trucks. "McKinney is a perfect fit for us. We're not just about selling trucks; we want to become part of treating our customers like family."

8. McKinney-based Traxxas offers radio-controlled cars, long-lasting fun, representative says


Radio-controlled cars can provide fun for people of all ages, said Damron Atkins, marketing manager for Traxxas, a McKinney-based radio-controlled vehicle manufacturer. Traxxas was established in 1986, Atkins said, adding that it is a leading manufacturer of high-performance radio-controlled cars, or RC cars.
