Since the voter-approved package liquor proposition passed last year, businesses have begun to apply for permits to sell liquor in McKinney.

McKinney voters approved a ballot proposition in the November election to allow for the sale of package liquor products in city limits. Over 74% of voters elected to approve the proposition that was promoted by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce.

Eight businesses have been issued a permit or are in the process of obtaining a permit to sell packaged liquor products, according to city staff. Businesses must obtain approvals from both the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the city of McKinney before a permit can be issued, according to city staff.
