A BMW of McKinney car dealership is planned for north McKinney.

The dealership will be located at 2601 N. Central Expressway, near Wilmeth Drive. The plans propose the dealership will have an over 70,000-square-foot building on a 14-acre lot, according to site plan documents. The dealership is being developed by North Carolina-based Hendrick Automotive Group, the largest privately held automotive retail organization in the U.S., according to its website. The vehicle retail group also operates Honda Cars of McKinney and Hendrick Volkswagen Frisco, according to its website.

At their Dec. 13 meeting, McKinney Planning and Zoning Commission members received a presentation about the planned dealership from Bob Roeder, a representative of the applicant. Roeder said the dealership has been “a long time in the making.” The commissioners unanimously recommended a specific use permit for the project and the city council will consider the request at its Dec. 20 meeting.

“This company has owned this property for a long time and they’re a top notch dealer and developer, and this will be a clean operation,” Commission Chair Bill Cox said about the project.
