At Tuesday night’s McKinney City Council meeting, council members approved a specific use permit request for a downtown private club named the Paddock.

The specific use permit allows a business with a private club permit to garner up to 65 percent of its sales toward alcohol as compared to the 50 percent allowed with a mixed beverage permit, according to Brian Lockley, director of planning for the city of McKinney.

The Paddock, located at 119 S. Tennessee St., will sell food and alcoholic drinks, including high-end whiskeys and spirits, beer and wine.

The Paddock aims to “capture the essence of an early 20th-century speakeasy” with “dimmed lights, quiet music and period-era classic cars [that] will adorn and be honored in the restaurant,” according to a letter of intent written to Lockley.
