National engineering firm McAdams announced the acquisition of a locally based athletic facility design firm in September.
Sports Design Group was founded in 2006 in McKinney and specializes in the design and construction of outdoor athletic facilities, according to its website. Sports Design Group has worked on about 250 synthetic turf fields and 150 natural grass fields, according to a Sept. 28 news release.
Those projects span K-12, collegiate, municipal and professional sports facilities across the country. Founder Richard McDonald will join McAdams as a senior advisor on sports, according to the news release.
“Sports Design Group has always been focused on understanding what our clients need and helping them create athletic facilities that perform for the people who use them,” McDonald said in a statement. “Joining McAdams gives the firm an opportunity to continue doing that while bringing additional expertise and capabilities to our clients. It’s exciting to see what our firms will be able to accomplish together.”
The firm has previously worked on athletic facilities for multiple North Texas school districts including Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, Frisco ISD and McKinney ISD. Sports Design Group has also worked on professional sports venues in the NFL and MLB, according to the news release.
McAdams’ acquisition will add a dedicated athletic facility design specialist to the firm’s services while enhancing its sports and entertainment capabilities, the news release states.

Bringing it to McAdams creates an even more powerful way for us to support our clients.”
McAdams is a full-service firm that offers civil engineering, land planning, surveying, landscape architecture and construction administration services, according to its website.
