Henderson Kitchen & Tap, 2730 S. Central Expressway, McKinney, will be opening in mid- to late-January and will bring with it roughly 50 different beers and a menu prepared by a renown chef.

Martin Corboy, owner of the restaurant and Dallas' Henderson Tap House among several others, is a McKinney resident who had been eyeing the location, which was once home to La Madeleine.

"I kept driving by it every day and it kept staring at me, calling me, and I thought 'Man, it would be amazing to be able to have a beer at the end of my day and walk home,'" Corboy said. "I talked to my wife about it and she was on board."

The restaurant will be family friendly with a menu that includes homemade chicken strips for children, a locally sourced steak, burgers, pasta dishes, fish and other craft American dishes, Corboy said. Joe O'Brien, former National Director of Operations for Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group and head chef of several restaurants, will be joining Corboy in the new venture.

"We got very lucky that a very prominent chef from the east coast was down visiting me and said if I ever decided to open a restaurant I need to call him and that he would be my partner," Corboy said. "I called him and told him I found a spot. He flew in and loved it."

Although the restaurant aspect is the main focus, Corboy said he also wanted to offer a place where patrons could have a beer and hang out. There will be roughly 24 beers on tap and more than 20 other bottled varieties.

"We need a really great place that is not a chain restaurant that is kid-friendly but that also has a cool bar scene that doesn't have music blowing your ears out," Corboy said.
