The full story
The water boil notice was lifted at 2 p.m. Feb. 3 after the city’s supply was confirmed safe for consumption. After the notice was lifted, Lewisville officials discussed the event during a Feb. 3 City Council meeting.
The break occurred in a 30-inch water pipe located near the O’Reilly Auto Parts store along Business 121, Public Services Director Aaron Russell said. The break was caused by erosion from the creek which separated the pipe and released water very quickly, he said.
“That resulted in a rapid loss in water in our water tanks,” he said. “Regulations require once the pressure drops below 20 psi we have to issue a boil water notice which is what we did.”
After service was restored, officials had to test water samples which took 24 hours, Russell said. The notice was lifted after state-mandated water tests confirmed the water met state and federal standards for water safety.
