The award of a construction contract for a trail project within a Coppell park will allow the project to proceed.

Coppell City Council approved awarding a construction contract worth over $1.5 million to construction firm J.B. and Co. LLC—the same firm that performed work on the Duck Pond Park project—during their March 26 meeting.

The overview

Improvements planned for the park include a trail, additional park amenities and safety features. Per city documents, the project will create a trail connection within the 27-acre Magnolia Park and improve the city’s existing network of parks and trails.

The project will be funded through American Rescue Plan Act funds. City staff presented a proposal earlier this year to allocate additional funds for the project and several other projects using the funding source, which must be committed by the end of 2024.

The additional funding allocated from the city’s allotment of American Rescue Plan Act dollars was used to compensate for the increasing costs of materials, supplies and labor.

The specifics

Based on information included in city documents, several improvements are set to take place at Magnolia Park, which is located at 600 Levee Place.
  • Addition of 1,000 feet of concrete trail on the south side of the pond
  • Stabilization of embankment near the pond
  • Safety railing
  • Gates
  • A pet waste station and park bench
Another facet of the project is an aquatic resource relocation plan, which will help minimize the impact to any protected aquatic life that could be affected by construction.

No construction timeline is listed on the city’s construction activity webpage.
