Coppell ISD could make changes to its 2025-26 academic calendar after Dallas College amended its spring break week, according to a presentation at a July 22 meeting.

The district approved the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school year calendars in January, which scheduled spring break for March 17-21 to align with Dallas College in order for dual-credit students to continue classes at Coppell High School, Assistant Superintendent Kristen Eichel said. However, the college recently changed its spring break to March 10-14 for the 2024-25 academic year.

“We have spoken with Dallas College [officials], who has assured us that they have a plan to support their dual-credit students regardless of the week their school district has for spring break," Superintendent Brad Hunt said in a news release. "Student learning will not be compromised due to this change."

The details

On July 11, CISD officials sent an email to staff and parents to gather feedback on a possible change to the calendar to better align with Dallas College's spring break dates, Eichel said. Out of 100 responses, 58 supported keeping spring break during March 17-21, 38 asked to align with the college and 4 were neutral.

Many of the families commented that they had already planned and scheduled vacations or other travel plans for that week, she added.

The district will evaluate the 2025-26 calendar in the fall and revisit changing the spring break dates for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
