The Lewisville Parks and Recreation Department held a groundbreaking ceremony for the city’s newest park on April 29.

Glory Park, also known as Parque La Gloria, will be located at 301 E. Southwest Parkway. The $3 million project will bring two playground structures, a fitness station, multiple shade structures and trails to the property. Free Wi-Fi will also be available.

The park’s creation helps fulfill Lewisville’s goal of providing a park within a 10-minute walk of every resident. In February, Lewisville City Council adopted Explore More Lewisville, a 10-year action plan that will guide the development and management of parks and recreation facilities, trails, tree canopy investments, and open space.

The plan recommends adding 262 acres of parkland and 51 miles of recreational trails across the city.

The Glory/La Gloria neighborhood includes approximately 5,100 residents adjacent to the future park, according to the plan’s document. The current walk to the nearest park is around 23 minutes.
