Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway, a 1/5-mile asphalt oval adjacent to the Texas Motor Speedway dirt track, is undergoing major renovations in order to host its inaugural C. Bell’s Micro Mania micro sprint racing event Sept. 21-24, according to a May 21 press release from the speedway. Micro sprints are smaller versions of full-sized sprint cars “with side-mounted 600cc motorcycle engines that can generate 140 horsepower with similar chassis and body styles” to its larger counterparts, the release reads.

The main renovations will include converting the Lil’ Texas Motor Speedway track surface from asphalt to dirt and the addition of a 3,500-seat temporary grandstand, according to the release. Additions and upgrades will also be done to the front stretch wall and catch fence, caution light system and Lil’ Hoss screen, the scoreboard, PA system and pit-area amenities. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s database, the $1.5 million renovations are set to begin May 31 and expected to wrap up in early September. 817-215-8500. www.texasmotorspeedway.com
