The Golden Triangle branch of the Fort Worth Public Library, plus six other locations, will host free hands-only CPR and AED training taught by the Fort Worth Fire Department from Sept. 29 through Oct. 4.

The specifics

The city news release states the workshops will be led by fire department EMTs and paramedics. The course will introduce participants to hands-only CPR and explain the basics of how to use automated external defibrillators machines, commonly referred to as AEDs.

The workshop at the Golden Triangle Library branch will be held Oct. 4 at 5 p.m., according to the news release. The workshops are designed for teens and adults and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Instruction is focused on hands-only CPR and is not a certification course. All classes will be available in English and Spanish.

According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR is proven to double or triple the chances of survival after cardiac arrest. Timely and accurate AED use can also improve survival rates, according to the news release.

What they’re saying

“We always want our residents to call 911 in a medical emergency, but we also want teens and adults in Fort Worth to feel confident in how to use life-saving tools like AEDs and know how to perform CPR until our firefighters, paramedics or EMTs can arrive,” said Craig Trojacek, Fort Worth Fire Department public information officer.

“Our libraries regularly offer lifelong learning opportunities for adults,” said Library Director Midori Clark. “I’m thrilled we can add life-saving lessons to our list of programs.”
