Zaxby’s met a deadline from the city of Keller to have trees replanted in front of its store.

How we got here

From late September into early October, trees and additional landscaping were planted at the fast-casual chicken restaurant at 701 Keller Parkway, according to Rachel Reynolds, city of Keller communication and public engagement manager. She said in an email the owner of Zaxby’s had until Nov. 1 to finish the proposed landscaping plan.

The trees were removed Feb. 26 from the south and west sides of the property, according to previous reporting, which resulted in an uproar on social media.

The details

Reynolds explained there is a procedure in place for tree removal in Keller.

“The trees were removed without a permit or the required permission from the city, and staff put a stop-work order on the property when we were made aware that the trees were being removed,” she said. “Staff is not sure of the details on the relationship/communication between the property owner and restaurant operator.”
