Texas Health presbyterian Hospital Plano opened in 1991 and has tripled its footprint over the past 25 years in Plano.[/caption]As Texas Health Plano celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the hospital is also planning an expansion at its Seay Behavioral Health Center, 6110 W. Parker Road, Plano.
Texas Health is expanding its center to better accommodate adults and children in need of mental health services. The center will be expanded from 20 to 48 beds and will also add to its staff of social workers, doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, case managers and psychiatric technicians. The expansion is expected to be complete in September.
Texas Health Plano has more than tripled its size since opening in 1991, investing more than $300 million in its system, Texas Health Plano President Josh Floren said. The hospital, which has been acting as a Level II Trauma center since September, also plans to add a second helipad to better serve first responders, Floren said.
There are an increasing number of adolescent patients in need of behavioral health services in Plano and throughout the Metroplex, Floren said. Behavioral health disorders in adolescents today include suicidal ideation, depression, substance abuse, anxiety and eating disorders, he said. The ultimate goal is providing resources that will help well before the point in which patients will need hospitalization or a psychiatric emergency room.
“In Collin County, there are very few behavioral health and mental health services,” he said. “By us doubling the size of the Seay Center we have an opportunity to provide more adolescent beds, which is really where the need is.”
