Less than two weeks after Medical City Frisco started offering services, hospital CEO Charles Gressle said the hospital is preparing to one day expand.

HCA North Texas, a subsidiary of Hospital Corporation of America and Medical City Frisco’s owner, bought a five-acre tract of land north of the 54-bed hospital for a future expansion. The land is currently zoned for a building with a maximum of 15 stories.

Gressle said the expansion is several years down the road, and it would likely include expanding current services as well as adding new services.

Before that expansion, though, the hospital plans to add services—including women’s health, cardiovascular services and an intensive care unit —to its current offerings.

“We already have orthopedic surgeons here and general surgeons here,” Gressle said. “We do a lot of their business at other places because this isn’t technically a full-service hospital. Once we get the ICU services up and running and all of those other support resources, we’ll see a lot of growth.”

HCA owns 12 other hospitals in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Medical City Dallas and Medical Center of Plano. Gressle said opening an HCA hospital in Frisco made sense because a lot of patients in Plano and Dallas are traveling from the Frisco area.

“Frisco is a very attractive growing community,” Gressle said. “If you just simply look at the data on that—all of these families moving in and the home prices—that’s a great indicator. Honestly some of that is part of the equation that showed us that we needed to be in Frisco.”

HCA purchased the hospital, previously known as Forest Park Medical Center in Frisco, in March. Medical City Frisco has 54 beds, 12 operating suites, a three-bed emergency room, a full-imaging department, a lab and a blood bank.

City officials welcomed the hospital to Frisco during an open house April 11. During the open house, HCA North Texas President Erol Akdamar said the name Medical City Frisco was chosen carefully.

“Our sister hospital, Medical City Dallas, is immediately recognizable for its reputation of providing world-class care not just to North Texans, but to patients who come to see us from all around the world,” he said. “We want you to place the same trust and to know you’ll get the same exceptional treatment here at Medical City Frisco.”

Akdamar said HCA is the only hospital system in the area that provides both adult and pediatric hospitals. Gressle also said HCA is the only system in the DFW area that pays local taxes.

“We’re going to add a lot of jobs; it’s going to be great for economic development,” Gressle said. “There’s going to be a lot of hotels and restaurants that come up around the hospital, so it’s pretty exciting.”

Frisco Mayor Maher Maso said Medical City Frisco is a great addition to the community because both the city and HCA are growing.

“We’re still a relatively small community of 155,000, but we will get to approximately 375,000 very quickly,” Maso said. “I know some of the growth plans [for Medical City Frisco], and it’s exciting to see that an organization will continue to grow with us and what the future will bring. It’s going to be a very bright future.”
