For elementary students, the following recommendations are being made:

Zooming out
The news release states there are recommended adjustments for non-resident transfer students, as well. GCISD currently offers limited open enrollment to address declining student populations. Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, new non-resident students will follow designated pathway options, determined by the district based on staffing and capacity.
As this is a complex issue, the news release states that other considerations will be addressed, including:
- Details regarding transfers for employee’s children
- Younger siblings of current transfers
- STEM campus opportunities
- Specialized or qualifying programs
