Brad Schnautz was chosen as interim superintendent of Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.

The board of trustees unanimously approved Schnautz for the position at its Oct. 24 meeting. He has served as the district’s deputy superintendent since July 2017.

“It's an honor to continue to serve [the district] in this capacity,” Schnautz said.

GCISD Superintendent Robin Ryan announced his retirement Sept. 23. He was leader of the district for 13 years and is the second-longest-serving superintendent in the district’s history. Ryan will remain an employee of GCISD until Aug. 31, 2023, to assist with the transition of leadership.

In the meeting, Schnautz said this is a “time of transition” with feelings of uncertainty within the district’s employees and the community.

“I want to provide stability for this district and community that I love,” he said. “That's my goal, [and] that’s what I’m going to do.”

According to district documents, Schnautz will begin his position Jan. 6 and will serve until the board of trustees officially announces a new superintendent. In the meeting, board President Casey Ford said the next step is to hire a search firm before working with the community to find a new superintendent.

Ford added the board wants to hear what the community has to say and what qualities and experience they want in a new leader for the district.

“We’re going to take your words to heart,” he said. “Every member here on this dais is committed to finding what we believe to be the most dynamic, goal-driven individual that will help lead the school district.”
