Village Cafe and Bakery in Colleyville has new owners who said they hope to provide an intimate environment.

“I want to [have visitors] just feel welcome,” owner Jay Kim said. “A place to come and communicate.”

Since acquiring the business in October, he and his wife, YuJung Ahn, have been working to ensure customers enjoy freshly prepared foods, coffees and teas to their liking in a cozy atmosphere.

The business, at 85 Village Lane, Ste. 125, opened last December and serves what Kim believes is “the best” quality tea and coffee from Portland, Oregon—a place Kim and his family lived before moving to Texas.

Kim said he prepares teas by Steven Smith, co-founder of the Tazo tea brand, and dishes up Nossa Familia Coffee.

Tea and coffee have been Kim’s hobby for years.

“I always ask, ‘How’s the taste?’” Kim said. “They usually say it’s very good.”

A bubbly soda with fruit syrup makes up Village Cafe and Bakery’s signature drink.

Liam’s Cocktail was an experiment by Kim and is named after a frequent visitor.

“One day [Liam] came to my cafe, tried it, and said, ‘Wow that is awesome,’” Kim said.

The drink has been sold at the cafe since.

The cafe’s bakery items are made in-house daily and make up a breakfast and lunch menu at what Kim says are “reasonable” prices.

Kim, who is originally from South Korea, said bulgogi, a Korean-style grilled beef, is one of his best sellers and is sold either as a sandwich or as a panini.

In the future Kim said he would like to expand his offerings to provide “health and well-being foods.”

Kim said customer satisfaction is critical to him and said he loves to hear feedback and criticism.

“I want to see my customers happy with my products,” Kim said. “I’m always looking for ways
to improve.”
