Grand Hyatt DFW Airport unveiled its $34 million renovation during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 11.
Located inside Terminal D at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the ceremony highlighted the conclusion of upgrades that started in July. The renovations focused on guest rooms and suites, meeting spaces, event spaces, the lobby, and a redesigned restaurant, lounge and bar, according to Jeff Babcock, general manager of Grand Hyatt DFW Airport.
The refresh coincided with the hotel's 20th anniversary in July.
“Through the transformation, we remained true to a bold and vibrant design,” Babcock said. “This included celebrating aviation history, cutting-edge technology, a nod to Texan heritage and landscapes and encompassing contemporary style, while utilizing luxurious materials and sustainability.”
Zooming in
The number of rooms increased from 298 to 315, which included conference room suites that were converted into king rooms, and the ninth-floor gym was transformed into a one-of-a-kind rooftop indoor-and-outdoor flight deck, said Mohamed Charkas, DFW Airport executive vice president/chief development and infrastructure officer. The outdoor flight deck also has a pool.
A new state-of-the-art fitness center with Peloton bicycles was created on the first floor, Babcock said.
The details
The Grand Met Restaurant and Grand Met Lounge were revamped with refreshed seasonal menus, new concepts and newly designed private and semi-private dining rooms. As part of the renovations, the Grand Met Restaurant was relocated to the meeting room level from July to September, according to previous reporting.
Charkas said he joined Ripton Melhado, vice president of field operations for Hyatt, on trips to look at other Grand Hyatt hotels.
“We made sure this hotel was not a cookie-cutter, that it has the identity and DNA of Dallas and Fort Worth,” Charkas said. “It was a daunting task, but the results speak for themselves.”
What else?
Melhado said the entire airport team shared a bold vision for the renovation, which included runway views from rooms. He said the rooms all have advanced acoustics, sunproofing and window treatments that will provide peace in the country’s second-busiest airport. Rooms also include HD flatscreen televisions, charging ports, enhanced lighting controls, blackout shades and a bathroom with enlarged vanities, showers and bathtubs.
There is 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space and the 6,600-square-foot ballroom that can host a variety of events, Melhado said.
