Frisco celebrates grand opening of 122-acre Northwest Community Park
The city of Frisco gathered Sept. 19 to celebrate the grand opening of Northwest Community Park. Designed as a first-of-its-kind park geared toward cyclists, the park includes a splash pad, public art, playgrounds, shade structures, grills, restrooms, miles of hike-and-bike trails, a prairie observation deck and a reinvestment in the region’s Blackland Prairie.

Collin County officials raise property tax rate for FY 2026-27
Collin County residents will see a higher property tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27. The Collin County Commissioners Court voted to raise the property tax rate to $0.151414 per $100 in property valuation, a 1.4% increase from the rate of $0.149343 per $100 that has been in place since FY 2023-24. Commissioners also approved a $619.6 million budget for FY 2026-27, a $20.4 million increase compared to the FY 2025-26 budget.

Keller ISD consolidating campuses due to declining enrollment
The first day of school for Keller ISD Aug. 12 also began a countdown for the final days of the district’s three intermediate schools. During KISD’s May 14 board of trustees meeting, Bear Creek, Parkwood Hill and Trinity Meadows were selected to close after the 2026-27 school year by a 129-member committee of parents, community members, teachers and staff.

New mixed-use district planned around Toyota Stadium in Frisco
Hunt Sports Development has partnered with Peak Curated Development and Venu Holding Corporation to develop a mixed-use district on the east side of Toyota Stadium and Soccer Center in Frisco. The district is set to include restaurants, a boutique hotel and a convention center and is slated for groundbreaking in 2027, according to a Sept. 22 Hunt Sports Development news release.

Rustic Cowboy Bar & Dance Hall offers dance lessons, live music in Fort Worth
The Rustic Cowboy Bar & Dance Hall held a soft opening in Fort Worth in September. The country dance hall features a 1,300-square-foot dance floor, a pool table, a private room, mechanical bulls and two bars. The business offers dance lessons Wednesday through Saturday with live music on Friday and Saturday.

5 restaurants now open, coming soon in Plano
Check out five new places to eat that are now open or opening soon in Plano. Curry Tei and Bar, which specializes in Japanese curry and “izakaya-style” appetizers, opened in early August, while Indonesian restaurant Angel Touch Kitchen is set to open later this fall.
