Nearly two years after a tornado damaged Sam’s Club in Grapevine, doors will open at the wholesale club starting Oct. 16.

This Sam’s Club will be the first in the country without any registers or cashiers, allowing customers to use their app’s scan-and-go feature to shop, according to club co-manager Zak Zakerishojaei.

Steve Zapata, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, said the Grapevine location will have many technology features not available in other stores since it's the first digital-only store.

Zakerishojaei said that includes a robot that can make 190 pizzas in an hour, custom-made sushi that can be ordered in the app and an e-commerce order area that is four times larger than any others in Sam’s Club stores.

Zooming in

Sam's Club was hit by a tornado in December 2022, resulting in an announcement that the store would permanently close in April 2023. In December 2023, Sam's Club officials stated the store would reopen in Grapevine.

The revamped store will bring innovative services with leading technology from Sam’s Club to Grapevine, according to a news release.

The Sam's Club fuel center and car wash debuted prior to the reopening of the store. Zakerishojaei noted the store used the scan-and-go feature for both the car wash and gas and saw a big increase in pre-tornado use. The car wash app usage went up 85% and the gas is up 50%, he’s said.

He said the company hired 270 workers for the store—double the workforce prior to the tornado—and there will be plenty of employees on hand to help with any scan-and-go issues.
