Andy Frolov says he has a big sweet tooth. And when he moved to Southlake just over seven years ago, he found his favorite ice cream place.

“I had a scoop every day,” Frolov said. “I never missed a day.”

Frolov owns an optical store on Southlake Boulevard right next to his favorite ice cream parlor—The Ice Cream Place, a store he now owns.

The shop started in 2007 when its first owner, Jerry Connell, created a place to bring his grandkids for ice cream. Connell wanted the best product, so he used ice cream that is not commercially available and made with real ingredients such as fresh fruit and non-artificial syrups, Frolov said.

The shop has 32 flavors from which to choose. Frolov’s daily scoop ranged from the Garbage Can—ice cream mixed with candy bars—to the multicolored, vanilla-flavored Superman. While he loved the ice cream, he also treasured the relationship he shared with Connell, he said.

“We had a good tradition to drink coffee and [have] doughnuts every Sunday morning for many years,” Frolov said.

Even after Connell fell ill, Frolov was determined to take care of the pair’s tradition. He took it upon himself to bring Connell coffee and doughnuts for the two to enjoy together.

Connell died in 2017. Having a lot of respect for Connell, and loving the ice cream, Frolov wanted to keep The Ice Cream Place alive.

“I kept it for the community,” he said. “It’s a win-win for me, my kids and for the community.”

Frolov has kept almost everything the same since he became an owner.

“This place will be just as it is for many years,” Frolov said. “I think there is a beauty to it.”
