Collin County Health Care Services confirmed May 9 a Frisco resident tested positive for the Zika virus.
The Frisco resident contracted the disease while out of the country. The Frisco case is the only reported Zika case in Collin County. Denton County has three reported cases and 36 cases have been reported in Texas.
All Zika cases reported in the U.S. were contracted outside the U.S.
“Experts tell us mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus are predominantly ‘day biters,’ which differs from mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus,” Frisco Environmental Health Supervisor Julie Stallcup said. “To fight any bites, we need to make applying insect repellents part of our daily routine.”
