Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Frisco was recognized by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for bariatric surgery excellence, the facility announced.

The insurance company awarded BSW-Frisco with a Blue Distinction Centers for Bariatric Surgery designation, as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. BSW-Frisco earned the designation by meeting patient safety measures and bariatric-specific quality measures like complication and readmission rates for various procedures, according to a news release.

All designated facilities are required to be nationally accredited at both facility and bariatric program-specific levels, the release reads, and they must also demonstrate cost-efficiency. Facilities designated as Blue Distinction Centers are on average 20% more cost-efficient in cases compared to other facilities, according to the release.

“This designation means that when a patient chooses our hospital for weight loss surgery, they will have access to a comprehensive program that has been recognized as one of the best in the region in quality and value,” said Trevor Castaneda, CEO at BSW-Frisco, in a statement.
