A new monument to honor the U.S. military soldiers who have received a Purple Heart has debuted in Frisco.

The Purple Heart Monument is located at the Frisco Veterans Memorial in Frisco Commons Park. City officials and veterans unveiled the monument and held a dedication Sept. 20.

The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the president to those wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military.

More details

The monument itself is roughly five feet tall and depicts a Purple Heart Medallion as well as inscribed messages. There are two smaller statues next to the monument engraved with twin sentinel soldiers standing guard.

Frisco Commons Park is the home of the Frisco Veterans Memorial, which features the Walk of Honor, a Battlefield Cross, the Gold Star Family Memorial Monument, a WWII Flyboy statue and multiple informational plaques on wars and conflicts since Frisco’s founding in 1902. One of the plaques commemorates the city’s 2017 declaration as a Designated Purple Heart City.
