Jay Saad and Cathie Alexander both secured more than 50% of the vote in their race for Place 2 and Place 3, respectively, during a June 10 runoff election.
Major takeaways
The June 10 runoff election only placed the top two candidates from each May 6 race on the ballot. This is how it ended for them:
- Place 2: Jay Saad (56%), Scott Coleman (44%)
- Place 3: Stacey Donald (44%), Cathie Alexander (56%)
The special election was called in late May following an unsuccessful race for the two places’ candidates. Runoff elections, such as the one held June 10, are typically called if none of the candidates are able to reach a 50% plus one vote majority.
Of the three Collin College seats on the ballot during the May 6 general election for places 1, 2 and 3, only the race for Place 1 ended with a clear winner.
Megan Wallace secured 50.07% against incumbent Fred Moses and will take her place on the board of trustees.
However, none of the candidates competing for places 2 and 3 were able to reach the 50% plus one vote of the ballots cast. This is how the election ended for those places on May 6:
- Place 2: Jay Saad (44%), Scott Coleman (49%), Philip Timmons (7%)
- Place 3: Stacey Donald (45%), Cathie Alexander (42%), Joe Minissale (13%)
While the May 6 election drew more than 60,000 voters who cast their ballots in the Collin College races, the June 10 runoff election saw approximately 27,000 voters, according to Collin County election data.
