The framework
All FISD staff were sent a survey to provide feedback during the calendar creation process, said Natalie Miller, principal of Elliott Elementary School and member of the calendar committee. The committee received feedback from almost 2,000 staff members.
Other constraints were taken into consideration when creating the calendar such as teacher preference for starting school on Wednesday or Thursday and balancing the semester’s school days, Miller said.
The calendar includes 75,600 minutes of instructional time, which is required by the state. The committee also considered aligning major school breaks with neighboring districts and the timing of graduation ceremonies.
