The first day of the 2024-25 school year will be Aug. 12 for Frisco ISD students.

The FISD board approved the academic calendar during a Dec. 11 meeting. The meeting included a presentation from the district’s calendar committee, which included 18 community members and district employees, according to a committee presentation.

The details

The calendar includes 75,600 instructional minutes, which is required by the state.

Here are some important dates to note:
  • First day of school: Aug. 12
  • Fall break: Nov. 1-5
  • Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-29
  • Winter break: Dec. 23-Jan. 6, 2025
  • Spring break: March 17-21, 2025
  • Last day of school: May 21, 2025
Two bad weather makeup days must also be included in the plan. These days were included at the end of the calendar on May 22 and 23.


What parents should know

The committee worked a fall break into the calendar to surround the Nov. 5 Election Day. The committee decided to have students off on Election Day with the influx of people going to the polls at several school sites, according to a committee presentation.

There will be no school for students on the following days, excluding holiday breaks:
  • Sept. 2-3
  • Oct. 11
  • Oct. 14
  • Jan. 20
  • Feb. 14
  • Feb. 17
  • April 18
School hours will be unchanged from this school year:
  • 7:45 a.m-3:05 p.m. for elementary schools
  • 8:25 a.m.-3:45 p.m. for middle schools (including Wortham Intermediate)
  • 9 a.m.-4:25 p.m. for high schools
