Open space and site plans for an information technology center at the Collin College Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco were approved by the Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission at an Oct. 22 meeting.

The center is planned on 90.9 acres on the northwest corner of Ohio Drive and Wade Boulevard, according to a city report.

The commission approved revisions to the plans after they were first denied at an Oct. 8 meeting.

Originally submitted Sept. 16, the plans initially failed to meet some city ordinances, codes and engineering standards, according to city reports. And due to a recently passed state law dubbed the “Shot Clock Bill,” the commission was required to respond to the plans within 30 calendar days.

But the developer for Collin College’s IT center made necessary adjustments needed by the city, leading city staff to recommend approval by the commission at the Oct. 22 meeting, Commissioner Jon Kendall said at the meeting.

“This is the second example tonight that we had recommended for denial a few weeks ago, and we were able to take care of the small issues, and now it’s going to be recommended for approval,” Kendall said at the meeting.

The IT center is in support of Collin College’s bachelor’s degree in applied technology in cybersecurity to begin in spring 2020, said Sherry Schumann, Collin College’s executive vice president, in previous reporting by Community Impact Newspaper.

As last reported, the IT center will open in 2021.
